Our intent is not to criticize any manufacturer - you just need to know why the preemie clothing you may have bought in the past may not be bringing customers back for more. Preemie clothing cannot fluctuate in sizing like Newborn sizes and above can. Consumers of preemie garments have been very frustrated with the manufacturing industry because they expect garments labeled Preemie to be much smaller. Yet when they purchase these garments, they are still too large for their baby and have to roll and tuck them to properly fit. Many consumers have resorted to purchasing Newborn size, or worse, doll clothing. Can you imagine consumers' frustration after specifically purchasing Preemie size?
We would like to caution you about clothing that has frilly lace, snaps, zippers, or heavy seams. While all of these features may be cute, they are harmful to the preemies skin. A preemies skin, as the other organs, has not formed completely. As such, not only is the skin rice paper thin, but the nerve ending are nearly exposed and very sensitive. What you and I feel as a gentle brush against our skin, to a preemie this is magnified and can be a painful experience. Therefore, when you put clothing on a preemie that is not as soft as possible or unneeded bulk, the infant may endure unnecessary skin lesions or pain.
Our clothing is sized perfectly for the 4-6 pound infant.
Should you purchase preemie garments with a wrist to wrist measurement of greater than 15” it will be too large for infants 4-6 pounds and is not preemie sized.
Please note many hospitals do not allow clothing on infants under 4 pounds.
Why do we also manufacture garments with a front panel opening?
Did you know preemies 3-6 pounds could have oxygen, apnea monitors, and/or G-Tubes? Parents have to weave these wires and tubes through some opening on the garment making it very difficult to adjust the equipment. Their only option was to undress the baby each and every time. Preemies’ skin is rice paper thin and these constant adjustments can cause lesions and hurt their skin! See how all the wires and oxygen tubing is contained through the loops. This is much better for baby and the caregiver!
